![]() ![]() Unlike in Super Mario 64 DS, there are now six doors for each character rather than only three. Once again, to switch between characters, the player has to use the doors found in the Character Room. The latter are abilities unique to each character after finding the Power Flower which, similarly to its predecessor, replaces the power-up Caps from the original game. This game's caps include Mario's, Luigi's, Toad's, Wario's and Waluigi's, each one turning the player's characters into the corresponding character who owns the cap, getting all of their moves, stats and Power Flower abilities. Similarly to Super Mario 64 DS, Caps can be found in the painting worlds and some secret courses. However, some abilities given to some cannot be used by others, such as Yoshi's tongue and Toad's forward roll replacing the punching and kicking abilities used by Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi. Characters are able to ground pound, triple jump, long jump, back flip and somersault. Additionally, the player can collect 200 Power Stars, 80 more than the original game and 50 more than the first remake.Īs in its preceding versions, the game features a diverse host of abilities given to the players. Unlike previous versions, which had a total of 15 courses, this game features 5 new courses for a total of 20 courses. Like in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, the game's hub is Princess Peach's Castle, featuring several rooms and corridors from which courses can be accessed through paintings or sometimes even the walls themselves. The six heroes continue to travel through the worlds' painting, collecting the rest of the Power Stars in order to save Princess Peach from Bowser's grasp. Yoshi decides to investigate, eventually collecting Power Stars and rescuing Mario, Luigi, Toad, Wario and Waluigi. He also reveals that the heroes were captured and thrown into paintings by Bowser's army after entering the castle. No one's home! Now scram-and don't come back! Gwa ha ha!" a desperate Toadsworth tells Yoshi that Bowser and his army had kidnapped Princess Peach and scattered all of the castle's Power Stars. When Yoshi finally enters, he hears Bowser's voice telling him, " Welcome. Our dino friend gladly accepts, and not long after, he finds the rabbit and takes the key from him. ![]() Lakitu asks for Yoshi's help to retrieve the key, and search for Mario and the others. Yoshi then meets Lakitu, who explains that the castle has just been attacked by Bowser and his minions, and Mario & friends didn't return from inside the castle.Īs Yoshi tries to enter the castle, Lakitu informs Yoshi that the castle was locked by Bowser's minions and that the main door key was stolen by a wandering rabbit. Upon arriving, the airships begin to flee as several enemies retreat. Curious as to what is happening, Yoshi runs through the panicking Toad Village towards Peach's Castle. Scared, Lakitu retreats to look for help.Ī sleepy Yoshi is suddenly awakened by some loud noises some time after, and as he finally wakes up, he notices the airships surrounding the castle grounds. Several airships appear from behind the castle, and a bunch of Bowser minions start to lock every door in the castle. Lakitu tries to follow Mario and his friends when they arrive, but quickly loses track of them after they enter. However, the letter was actually written and sent by Bowser who had already captured the princess, expecting Mario (and co.) to arrive at the castle so his minions could capture them. Mario decides to go with some company, bringing Luigi, Toad, Wario and Waluigi along. Mario receives this letter from Princess Peach, who is supposedly awaiting for his arrival with a cake.
